HSS Hell repaint

I didn't care for the original paintjob, which had a dime store mask look to it with a high contrast purple-airbrush shadowing job, so I used a few screen caps and brought it closer to the movie design. I only kept the skull face and the strap compressions the same color, since I liked the purplish color as a bruise caused by tight mask straps. Once it has a solid paint job, the HSS Hell is a great piece to have in your collection. This look is one of my favorite Jason designs, so its great to have a movie mold piece.

The Best Part III Busts

Scabboy had probably the most comprehensive list of part 3 busts produced by the fan community on his now defunct blog http://scabboy.blogspot.com, so I thought I might do one of my own since I'm still split as to what exactly is the best Doug White bust made by fans. I have it down to D-Bach's Hangman II (produced in a short run in early 2010) and Dead End Hollow's Horror at Higgins Haven (2010). As an interesting aside, it seems to me that the period from February 2009 to mid-2010 was the golden age of Jason mask replicas since the most accurate pieces were produced in that period. Crash's HLM (2010), the two aforementioned part 3 pieces, HUD (2010), Justin Mabry's Vengeance (2009?) and Re-Vengeance (2010), the movie-mold pieces by HSS and SSN (2009-2010) were all produced in that golden period of super-accurate F13 props. Almost no one is sculpting outstanding original Jason busts now; all of the artists, including myself, have moved on. So what were the best part 3 busts? In order of greatness:

1. DEH HHH (2010)
This sculpt nails it overall probably better than the rest. The neck, cranium and face are all a solid representation of the DW makeup.

2. DBach Hangman II (2010)

I think this is the only part 3 bust to get the nose perfect and the menacing, animalistic stare amazingly captures the end scene of the film. This bust was evidently inspired by the earlier Itz-U, since it has the same flaw-- a too-flat rear cranium. I own one of these, and it will probably be my final part 3 keeper.

3. MMFX Resin 3D (2009)

A great piece overall, exquisitely detailed and accurate.

4. Itz-U (2005)
A fan favorite, probably because it was the first accurate part 3 fan bust on the market.

Behind the scenes at Camp Kenmont, September 1980...

Yes its my Pamela Voorhees first finished pull. I call this one "Pamela's Curse" and will only be pulling a few blanks for people.

New Project: Mrs. Voorhees

About a month into sculpting this. I've never quite been enamored with the other replicas out there, and since I actually got to touch the original, screen-used piece about a year ago I've been infatuated with it. Going for as close to 1:1 replication as I can get and very satisfied so far. Expect to have this done within the next two weeks or so, and finished copies will be painted exactly like the screen piece.

Haven't decided on a name yet: was throwing around "requiem", "the shrine", "face time", "Pamela's curse", "psycho", etc.

Ever notice...

...that most of the posters from Friday the 13th: A New Beginning feature in the background a gigantic photo of the hero mask from part 3? I just did.

Yet another photo of my CJ

I like these because they are in sunlight and show the piece as the true shade of gray that it is (it often looks bluish in photos). It looks just like this in person, although the contrast with the browns is not as distinct.

Also here is a photo of the unfinished piece with just the grays painted.

HLM Repaint w/ Ultimate III

I finally got around to putting my ultimate part 3 combo together: Crash's superb "Hideous Looking Man", paired with a vintage olive drab Big Mac shirt and the best part 3 hock I've ever done, as accurate to the movie mask as I have ever gotten. I'm real happy with this one and it will be one of my few keepers, along with my HUD, SSN New Blood and my own CJ sculpt.

The HLM has been repainted a much darker reddish-tan to more accurately (in my analysis) reflect the movie paint job.
