If you're on Facebook and you're really into Friday the 13th props, I invite you to join our Facebook group "Camp Blood: The Friday the 13th Mask & Prop Group." I haven't posted on the blog here as much because so much discussion happens there now.

Bill Forsche With a Part 5 Mask in 1986
Special effects artist Bill Forsche shared this photo recently on his Facebook page. Evidently this was taken around 1986 at Reel FX studios and shows Forsche wearing a part 5 mask. On first glance it appears to be the hero, but if you look carefully you can see the blue chevrons are smaller and the eye cuts are slightly different. Behind Forsche you can see what could be some Roy hoods and above that copies of the Shelly mask from Part 3. Pretty cool!

Alice Cooper with Mysterious Part 5 Mask
Here's something you don't see much: Alice Cooper did a photo shoot with an unknown hockey mask. It has the basic paint job of a Part 6, but is clearly unfinished, having no snap holes drilled, no axe cut, and appears too narrow to be from the buck used in Part 6. It's possible that this is an unused mask from Part 5 that Reel FX had laying around in the shop. Oddly enough, the vent hole that sits over where the axe cut should be is out of place, so this might itself be a recast of any of the early masks. Alice also doesn't have any makeup on, so this was evidently an entirely different shoot from the one he did with C. J. Graham.

Rare Photo of Jason, Michael Myers
This popped up on Facebook a while back. It's Dick Warlock dressed in the original Michael Myers gear, Tom Morga dressed in the actual Jason costume from part 5, and special effects sculptor Louis Lazzara in the middle circa 1985. Lazzara sculpted the FX head for part 5, based very closely on the design from part 4. See below. I think both of these photos came from Louis Lazzara.

Super Rare Roy Burns Dummy Photos
Worthy of note: this rare clear shot of the full cowl from part 5 shows that it is super close to a part 4 cowl, as compared with a 3D print of the original part 4 cowl sculpt seen here.
It isn't entirely clear what happened to this cowl, which may be the same one worn throughout the film. It could be the one underneath the part 4 screen used mask, currently with a private collector. It could also be the one sitting in the Hollywood Museum with a mask used briefly in part 5. This cowl, though certainly an original part 4 pull and likely painted for screen use, has just some light bruising painted around the axe cut, rather than profuse blood flow, similar to the part 5 cowl. Suggestive, but hard to say.
Update: Crash posted a photo of a sculpt by Louis Lazzara that was evidently used for production of Friday the 13th Part 5. You can see that it is extremely close to the part 4 version, although the ears are somewhat differently shaped. So apparently its not the same, just a very similar sculpt. He may have had access to the part 4 to use as a model. Really interesting.
