I started posting here back in 2009 as a way to display my Jason-related artwork. Since then I've done deep dives into hockey mask history and all things makeup and prop-related in the Friday the 13th franchise and I want to thank everyone who stops by to check out all the photos I've collected from around the web and read my analysis. I've been away from this for several months but I have a couple of Jason-related projects underway I'll be posting soon.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6POPm2yQ3tDgOR0-kbs3FnoNSUEVD-uNLJa37D2aTVKMllMRk9CTpGkZQu8_dHtwORJR4qDI2p9xrDW1d-uLNEyEm_Tbaaztc4ie1ngy2pFM16m-7iaZ9fE22x7ydBnJzF-fKm-tKxcCjBLTXz8t_Rh3fxBi8KIeuMAx3k_pSzViOPQ4vK5UBeu7cAcnK/s500/Jason-Mask-GIF.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="221" data-original-width="500" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6POPm2yQ3tDgOR0-kbs3FnoNSUEVD-uNLJa37D2aTVKMllMRk9CTpGkZQu8_dHtwORJR4qDI2p9xrDW1d-uLNEyEm_Tbaaztc4ie1ngy2pFM16m-7iaZ9fE22x7ydBnJzF-fKm-tKxcCjBLTXz8t_Rh3fxBi8KIeuMAx3k_pSzViOPQ4vK5UBeu7cAcnK/w640-h282/Jason-Mask-GIF.gif" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7181223226937243989.post-14569101387834693382023-10-20T12:48:00.005-07:002023-10-20T12:48:56.820-07:00New Stan Winston Jason Photos Revealed<p>Stan Winston Studios posted these recently on their social media in honor of the recent Friday the 13th. Really nice photos of casting Richard's face for the original sculpt used in Part III. You can also see the exaggerated mauve flesh tones used in painting the final pieces. FX guys usually did this knowing that color timing would inevitably rob the piece of some amount of it's original color. <br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZJK9Qqyxpv6p7NKcUeFjw6ZPV7IcQphEMnK1MZrZHbY9ukqfLYNSGwiSBO4FwvDylFS2EPnHWgJD5rT-M9hs5-B4PBoKicXU5lwle5p4vVXxIR-nG_0oSzcm_rwK-lFRyHkli72_tw_pugAEgUDV6GZBVRCFKzFAvsBjX0LrLZZCfU6ty_V60OpxUt8uV/s1248/391743699_7065904250140920_2659439748106575753_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; The results are below.These are easily the best photos I've taken of this piece, and I'm happy to finally have them up.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAhlJOynnW1z-y5QqXY7fG7VY2WX5Z_lOXf3T6pr3YD2BZwjOBZmM4ZfYrnoaUDj-Sq366A388UcXxEiat7oB0wt8Y6x_HfOA63w0z2YRj5gUZht6gdaSl7r8cq8_jZVJxjCe-0pYxfspUCR2DoArxy-dFrmQx2vScVt95i-9zAF_ZXSOsrPDN9KfDRQ/s3073/IMG_8328.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3073" data-original-width="2424" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAhlJOynnW1z-y5QqXY7fG7VY2WX5Z_lOXf3T6pr3YD2BZwjOBZmM4ZfYrnoaUDj-Sq366A388UcXxEiat7oB0wt8Y6x_HfOA63w0z2YRj5gUZht6gdaSl7r8cq8_jZVJxjCe-0pYxfspUCR2DoArxy-dFrmQx2vScVt95i-9zAF_ZXSOsrPDN9KfDRQ/w504-h640/IMG_8328.jpg" width="504" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyVEsu6hwbzUBiCvgxpAy7XF3U-KF_gaGQrDWyVqaNd8iMKUdpIbZpvngI6I2I33NkOXXNfm4MgCRSGIHYB8DNdB1UL5ZjLF3zHE4Z6GonOjhp2KrSOvxb-o4i-qW72DCPRACL9NNrEzGF_JmOQi3Pys4NcvW5xwxSR2nVIX0np5z_cPib6xHNcYa22Q/s3340/IMG_8327.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3340" data-original-width="2650" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyVEsu6hwbzUBiCvgxpAy7XF3U-KF_gaGQrDWyVqaNd8iMKUdpIbZpvngI6I2I33NkOXXNfm4MgCRSGIHYB8DNdB1UL5ZjLF3zHE4Z6GonOjhp2KrSOvxb-o4i-qW72DCPRACL9NNrEzGF_JmOQi3Pys4NcvW5xwxSR2nVIX0np5z_cPib6xHNcYa22Q/w508-h640/IMG_8327.jpg" width="508" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdcDlc5yM9-6mkPaSLIhim7DVv7crsbk0Ge7t-2C4thjlRPOW3Rv7utjUzESYF43-Ru5I_C5OsSKUdl5XY8nimbK6elzDu442p4GUQyqUQnifpT9fsv3Sfu9ZRwOPxyhtVVV-cWr2z0n8VWkW-WYxi7TPjV9LJ6P4J6HKTOgngWHpF21VdL56lQ440Dg/s3653/IMG_8326.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3653" data-original-width="2892" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdcDlc5yM9-6mkPaSLIhim7DVv7crsbk0Ge7t-2C4thjlRPOW3Rv7utjUzESYF43-Ru5I_C5OsSKUdl5XY8nimbK6elzDu442p4GUQyqUQnifpT9fsv3Sfu9ZRwOPxyhtVVV-cWr2z0n8VWkW-WYxi7TPjV9LJ6P4J6HKTOgngWHpF21VdL56lQ440Dg/w506-h640/IMG_8326.jpg" width="506" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTGwjcsQWWW8D8iGy7x24-x3SWUoLT8gPTwW2-9p5gXa9Vv_6EMRIcsgynqXVnjXnhJuUhZIcLqZ2ZDmX4GYsDTkuHsCsDtPhGC8_RTp-yaYr9XJfExzTd7yTEzZOLa3XfTC_KX5pQqQ3T0wrpYB-0vfMhqPAYBYK0Bi1LiN1i_wl22FoDHtUOncc6VQ/s4032/IMG_8331.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTGwjcsQWWW8D8iGy7x24-x3SWUoLT8gPTwW2-9p5gXa9Vv_6EMRIcsgynqXVnjXnhJuUhZIcLqZ2ZDmX4GYsDTkuHsCsDtPhGC8_RTp-yaYr9XJfExzTd7yTEzZOLa3XfTC_KX5pQqQ3T0wrpYB-0vfMhqPAYBYK0Bi1LiN1i_wl22FoDHtUOncc6VQ/w480-h640/IMG_8331.jpg" width="480" /></a></p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3SwSsMegotlGOO2i5m3qv8oCUte19tzfXONpTPnxTZCPQ2b7MvBSL_r8G-TflPo-Dd9gfxtdTGYEzdRzzYFA5NB6A51PtLxFRamJd4AqeynZzD8QsB2lYWiDACXHDob0FJXMXH0v9KoNIksiQsMekl2nhlrYyRaBzZPQJOJy8dkigW60PVkiWCIpoRQ/s4032/IMG_8330.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3SwSsMegotlGOO2i5m3qv8oCUte19tzfXONpTPnxTZCPQ2b7MvBSL_r8G-TflPo-Dd9gfxtdTGYEzdRzzYFA5NB6A51PtLxFRamJd4AqeynZzD8QsB2lYWiDACXHDob0FJXMXH0v9KoNIksiQsMekl2nhlrYyRaBzZPQJOJy8dkigW60PVkiWCIpoRQ/w480-h640/IMG_8330.jpg" width="480" /></a></p><p></p><p>

It has the basic paint job of a <i>Part 6</i>, but is clearly unfinished, having no snap holes drilled, no axe cut, and appears too narrow to be from the buck used in <i>Part 6. </i>It's possible that this is an unused mask from <i>Part 5</i> that Reel FX had laying around in the shop. Oddly enough, the vent hole that sits over where the axe cut should be is out of place, so this might itself be a recast of any of the early masks. Alice also doesn't have any makeup on, so this was evidently an entirely different shoot from the one he did with C. J. Graham.<p></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7181223226937243989.post-33960996007348906692023-02-11T06:00:00.001-08:002023-02-11T06:00:00.179-08:00Friday the 13th Mask Shows Up on Pawn Stars<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="527" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5LSUFyt_1YI" width="635" youtube-src-id="5LSUFyt_1YI"></iframe></div><p></p><p>The mask appears to be a recast of one of the promotional masks made for <i>Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood</i>. The original promotional masks are seen below. So it's probably not worth much by itself. Richard Brooker has been gone a long time and apparently his signature can fetch some money these days so the price quoted might be reasonable. It seems weirdly high to me but I'm not an autograph collector. The $6,500 ask was wild!<br /></p><p>Here's a shot of the promotional masks made by the MMI in 1988. So here it is! I recently trimmed a bit of the perimeter off my part 8 mask so that it's a little closer to the movie mask.</p><p>While my mask is accurate to what I remember when I saw it in person, I've been tempted to just sand it down and repaint the whole thing now that we have these astonishing Prop Store photos to use as reference. Your memory only goes so far. I didn't even realize, for example, that the straps are brown, rather than black until I saw the recent auction photos, or that the black weathering looks a little cloudier on the movie mask.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV4Jw1FAih4c3AqQS1HLmh04CaHU1UYJcTKPSsJUSH1XZTegYlsyaIm_Du-jzsHAhQeNzB4H_BAyU9NSI4OU6uVNYiKlxgvp8L7SsKynUyvxf9fJqrs9oFE7ajAF-Jcpdqy5jzAAPWSrY-eLZGNteyZhumBiEFgwl2o-kyQ-57Ts0x-WLZzvQe-8ZjNw/s1990/Part8.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1990" height="348" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV4Jw1FAih4c3AqQS1HLmh04CaHU1UYJcTKPSsJUSH1XZTegYlsyaIm_Du-jzsHAhQeNzB4H_BAyU9NSI4OU6uVNYiKlxgvp8L7SsKynUyvxf9fJqrs9oFE7ajAF-Jcpdqy5jzAAPWSrY-eLZGNteyZhumBiEFgwl2o-kyQ-57Ts0x-WLZzvQe-8ZjNw/w640-h348/Part8.png" width="640" /></a></div><p><br /></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7181223226937243989.post-84784446067382812292023-01-28T09:56:00.072-08:002023-01-28T09:56:00.164-08:00New Part 8 Movie Mold Mask Surfaces<p>Tony Lazarowich, a British Columbia-based <a href="https://www.pacwestspfx.com/" target="_blank">special effects artist</a>, recently posted a reel on his Instagram page where he showcases a <i>Part 8 </i>Jason mask. Lazarowich says in the video that he studied under the effects chief from the film (presumably referring to Jamie Brown) and was given the honor of making the masks for the movie.</p><p>The mask is definitely interesting. The blank itself looks very accurate to those used in <i>Jason Takes Manhattan</i>, having the telltale horizontal crack on the back
that is seen in the <i>Part 8</i> movie masks, a result of being recasted from a
flawed <i>Part 6 </i>blank that was pulled after the buck had cracked through the mouth area. The mask also has an interesting split in the side, something we also see in another <i>Part 8 </i>spare mask that was on eBay over a decade ago, that may have been caused by an FX artist accidentally cracking the notoriously brittle acrylic while going about his work.<br /></p><p>The vents appear to be drilled the right size and have the characteristic crudeness you usually see in movie masks. The color doesn't appear accurate to the hero mask to my eye. The straps and strap connections don't look accurate and the weathering doesn't look nearly as detailed as the hero mask, although stunt and other spare or promotional masks were sometimes painted more crudely. The mask does have the correct nylon blackouts for the eyes but the hero mask blackouts were just hot-glued in-- this appears to be done differently. In any case, the mask itself seems likely to have come from production in my estimation.<br /></p><p>Really cool piece and it's nice to see Tony has taken good care of it over the years. There are certain details that indicate masks that appear to be different are in fact the same, such as distinctive scratches or vent hole damage, so I've summarized what I've found below, with credit for updates and corrections to Nathan Stafford of the <a href="https://www.horrorcostumeindex.com/" target="_blank">Horror Costume Index</a>.<br /></p><p></p><p>1. <b>The Corn Field Mask</b>: This mask is characterized by the wide, shallow forehead chevron. This mask had more subtle early in the film. Prop collector Paul Wintner bought this mask a few years ago but I think he's since sold it.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEsBH_ZIzeTOUZQFG8oDYJBtXfPdj97xSBJeG2cM7GZBdRz_DLAvkadzHk0ErZeVP6YCfntZGgiGeypyU2r_Zr3sm2Zwhk2U5NwN6ZWDX5_c7PPmv5o4TaA-Mlj3Id5NW3EspwaTRCE8f2fFRJ-Eis0Cl-6XbCBWV-4CYFlfhwRk5Zn775L8pe0ZY31w/s1050/Corn%20field-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1050" data-original-width="1039" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEsBH_ZIzeTOUZQFG8oDYJBtXfPdj97xSBJeG2cM7GZBdRz_DLAvkadzHk0ErZeVP6YCfntZGgiGeypyU2r_Zr3sm2Zwhk2U5NwN6ZWDX5_c7PPmv5o4TaA-Mlj3Id5NW3EspwaTRCE8f2fFRJ-Eis0Cl-6XbCBWV-4CYFlfhwRk5Zn775L8pe0ZY31w/w634-h640/Corn%20field-1.jpg" width="634" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF2DMWn4RSVVb6H9HHzAxrk8mjX_DCxRG8tfz9BsES5cOXQJzkAvGHkUo_2pmAZliWdaZelxVBnovkCkRkGR642UqMrCYHixUfAi706lRBktdIA_xDpaOzMgWZ3Rvo2_68LTNUQIXb4PJsXZypL9Q6nZBTsvWtPApChEl8aD1UO3slLuXayd625pd45g/s840/Corn%20field-5.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="840" data-original-width="600" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF2DMWn4RSVVb6H9HHzAxrk8mjX_DCxRG8tfz9BsES5cOXQJzkAvGHkUo_2pmAZliWdaZelxVBnovkCkRkGR642UqMrCYHixUfAi706lRBktdIA_xDpaOzMgWZ3Rvo2_68LTNUQIXb4PJsXZypL9Q6nZBTsvWtPApChEl8aD1UO3slLuXayd625pd45g/w458-h640/Corn%20field-5.jpg" width="458" /></a></p><p></p><p>2. <b>The Hospital Mask</b>: This mask had a deep forehead chevron. This mask was also used in the resurrection scene in the beginning of the movie, among others. You can tell it's the same because the chevron is damaged in exactly the same way. This mask was also used during the resurrection scene, the first kill and in a number of promotional stills. It's from the ambulance scene, where Kelly Rowland has to pull Jason's mask up to give him CPR. Pretty good facial design, so it's a shame we didn't see all of it on film. I found this on Facebook, can't remember the source except that it was a photo of a photo that was printed on paper, so it may have been something Ken was selling at a convention. Someone correct me if you know the source. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinQef9GG1vUzlSxHJ8Unj55zJdP1gVN8OwOwDkl6TINR5dxAP0A6eeT7Hcdipj7Rz_Cd6ybYn6yq90Qjm1SuAD_lJfWN5Tq1cJRkuxo3ORYook80CVYJPo8AyMQbtdSEM67tSXCAs1Ioq1WWQPmS-0gJfQb-Y92p2MEw-q3dThzYIg8fnai6VPRdbLog/s1178/FreddvJasonface.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1178" data-original-width="1092" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinQef9GG1vUzlSxHJ8Unj55zJdP1gVN8OwOwDkl6TINR5dxAP0A6eeT7Hcdipj7Rz_Cd6ybYn6yq90Qjm1SuAD_lJfWN5Tq1cJRkuxo3ORYook80CVYJPo8AyMQbtdSEM67tSXCAs1Ioq1WWQPmS-0gJfQb-Y92p2MEw-q3dThzYIg8fnai6VPRdbLog/w594-h640/FreddvJasonface.JPG" width="594" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7181223226937243989.post-49600997552821037092022-12-01T11:17:00.011-08:002022-12-29T19:07:01.561-08:00A Study of the Freddy VS Jason Mask<p>Having recently come into a <i>Freddy vs. Jason</i> blank mask straight from the movie mold, I've spent some time studying details to try to get some insight into how it was likely made, and what it's origins might have been.</p><p>I can say for sure now that the movie mask was not a ground-up sculpt done for the film. It has a number of characteristics that clearly derive from the Part 6 mask and is almost certainly a third generation re-tool of a Part 6 mask.</p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDQDrr1CAoh40kVGJMSTPBIGDRPMSSK4KnhaB3YcQoxKxux6tVHkY-Evxujo4DnmuN17UpubuqAOVqIlIyJKFfgn2GrHj8BiACB6YQTu2LnirC0NQV8S6KG2f1LPrRBA58Ctm5PwJA2fTYp3e1WscrWZcGWM8JkhtylhUAcLYBol-etNs1KxDjve62Ww/s4032/IMG_7902.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDQDrr1CAoh40kVGJMSTPBIGDRPMSSK4KnhaB3YcQoxKxux6tVHkY-Evxujo4DnmuN17UpubuqAOVqIlIyJKFfgn2GrHj8BiACB6YQTu2LnirC0NQV8S6KG2f1LPrRBA58Ctm5PwJA2fTYp3e1WscrWZcGWM8JkhtylhUAcLYBol-etNs1KxDjve62Ww/w640-h480/IMG_7902.jpg" width="640" /></a><p></p><p>The mask has some features that clearly derive from the original Paramount era masks. It has the uneven upper forehead that slopes down to the right, and the slightly askew brow that slopes down in the opposite direction.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikWpY7NqoZCJLG1Kustvn0Etucu7oWeI0HVqoVLeZlX4hVlfkmWR3Yeqj5aRhLcO8YPXD8x3f5EJR2l1FTbFTN-d0rjywXCsxm09eKTmw--R0e44JstAm0IVcrjghJLBuIgUDQi9z6mBZAbCS0hG1cnZHis06f2g345TbxieuvSLoyJ_BhatShPTKPjQ/s4032/IMG_7899.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikWpY7NqoZCJLG1Kustvn0Etucu7oWeI0HVqoVLeZlX4hVlfkmWR3Yeqj5aRhLcO8YPXD8x3f5EJR2l1FTbFTN-d0rjywXCsxm09eKTmw--R0e44JstAm0IVcrjghJLBuIgUDQi9z6mBZAbCS0hG1cnZHis06f2g345TbxieuvSLoyJ_BhatShPTKPjQ/w640-h480/IMG_7899.jpg" width="640" /></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1fOBBpf0eoEP1kwgHZsF6WGDlwfJtDaCKHtR3sjyh2CqgUGYx46g9eBnwcPdYZYYRE0CEoZwgBuxNsMYw1avE_PQU_vqi5Di6mYkw5JtW5P-qpaHFrTk06dDjkJ5wCNK5evwwIejDFQOXt-b2xFEOiXTORxWpuX4kPi3GrgbqtCQfdd8yHnAzeRtrug/s4032/IMG_7901.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1fOBBpf0eoEP1kwgHZsF6WGDlwfJtDaCKHtR3sjyh2CqgUGYx46g9eBnwcPdYZYYRE0CEoZwgBuxNsMYw1avE_PQU_vqi5Di6mYkw5JtW5P-qpaHFrTk06dDjkJ5wCNK5evwwIejDFQOXt-b2xFEOiXTORxWpuX4kPi3GrgbqtCQfdd8yHnAzeRtrug/w640-h480/IMG_7901.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p>The nose is slightly more pointed on the right side of the tip in exactly the same way. The contours are almost a perfect match to my Part 6 (a second gen recast of a movie mask by Fiberglassmasks.com), although the sides appear to have been pulled in for a tighter fit. Though the wonky contours match perfectly, the nose is noticeably smaller than a Part 6 mask.</p><p>Looking very closely you can see some finer details that give the recasting away. What I found is that while there are some obvious differences -- the NECA's nose and overall profile is slightly flattened compared to the movie mold piece, the forehead has been reshaped and about 4 mm of the edge has been trimmed off -- overall, it's about as faithful to the movie mask as I expected, <a href="https://jasonlivessince1980.blogspot.com/2020/01/the-neca-jason-x-mask-is-shrunk-as-hell.html" target="_blank">given previous NECA mask experiences</a>. In this case I think it's probably the former, but it's hard to say. NECAs website advertised their VS mask as cast directly from a <a href="https://necaonline.com/2011/03/freddy-vs-jason-prop-replica-jason-mask-in-blister/" target="_blank">film-worn mask</a>, though which one it was isn't clear. <br /></p><p>For anyone interested in exact dimensions, the NECA is 23 cm height x 19.2 cm width measured across the back; the movie mold mask is 23.4 cm height x 18.9 cm width. It's closer in actual dimensions than it looks in photos, but a few millimeters of lost plastic makes a lot of difference when you look at it. For comparison, the end scene mask formerly owned by Mario Kirner measures 24.5 cm x 17 cm, according to the Propstore auction. <br /></p><p>Now that I finally have a direct movie mold VS mask, the NECA will be up for sale, probably on eBay. Keep an eye out for it if you're interested.</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7181223226937243989.post-21813250838274311362022-10-24T09:09:00.007-07:002022-10-24T09:09:39.250-07:00Mario Kirner Propstore Presentation<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="555" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kvdAlm1nf5E" width="667" youtube-src-id="kvdAlm1nf5E"></iframe></div>Mario shows off a little mask detail with the part 6, part 8 and Freddy vs. Jason masks he's owned for quite a few years. I remember seeing him at Monster Mania in Cherry Hill in 2018 and got a photo with him. Even though he only played Jason for money and never liked horror movies, he was a kind man who truly enjoyed meeting the fans, whom he called "some of the nicest people I've ever met." Truly amazing that he kept showing up for us for conventions, autographs and photo ops until he was well into his nineties. </p><p>I don't doubt Ted would rather be remembered for his cowboy roles and having stunt doubled for John Wayne and Charlton Heston, having an onscreen sword fight with Caesar Romero, among scores of other roles in his six decade career. Let's not also forget that he was a World War II veteran, played football, boxed, and even worked for Howard Hughes briefly. The guy truly had an amazing life. R. I. P. You can see here how the mask was basically put together pretty clearly. Basecoat of silver on a clear blank, then a coat of yellow was sprayed with sort of incomplete coverage. Then weathering and scraping of the yellow coat was done to make it look damaged, followed by a misting of black spray paint to create a gritty effect. Then of course the red marks, straps, etc. Very rare you see this kind of detail of a screen-used mask. Mario's entire collection -- the biggest of any Friday the 13th collection in the world -- is going up for auction at Propstore on November 3-6. I might try to grab something, but with the prices we're seeing lately, I don't hold out much hope.I guess as a consolation prize, it looks like I'll forever remain the only American to have seen Mario's whole collection in person. It was an honor I'll never forget.<br /></p><p>Here's a photo Propstore shared of a part 6 mask Mario owns, probably the most detailed photo of the mask ever taken. Note the base coat popping through the chipped paint in the chevron.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDdoTXmI8D2JWQ3Um0TMrwyPHRadWpZyTh5zcyGTrnC9azu495aY-Nh-VCLNFBAVUO1FgJkvIwRmzrVfothHpFaZ0uLwGfR5dtgXABclcPZDxYlVcc3od1zOc28GwHPbIx9gbj6hMnjr250EyRk4Y6od10_UqC2VlTEq8M2gJTUR6ptC2uE77RfTSXtA/s1920/309861064_5843626889003929_8052131623569792386_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1866" data-original-width="1920" height="622" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDdoTXmI8D2JWQ3Um0TMrwyPHRadWpZyTh5zcyGTrnC9azu495aY-Nh-VCLNFBAVUO1FgJkvIwRmzrVfothHpFaZ0uLwGfR5dtgXABclcPZDxYlVcc3od1zOc28GwHPbIx9gbj6hMnjr250EyRk4Y6od10_UqC2VlTEq8M2gJTUR6ptC2uE77RfTSXtA/w640-h622/309861064_5843626889003929_8052131623569792386_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7181223226937243989.post-41550234706005426062022-09-07T18:10:00.005-07:002022-09-07T18:10:47.308-07:00New Behind the Scenes Photo of Ted White<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyzntwWhW5KQQPsFZe0wUMuyyfHiLAffL09lRrc5X80OW2-xXz-aBSoBgAoDlLxG0N6sH9CfnOV3I8PEJt30A7s6zsgAG7p4JvHY5EHuq_wwkBMYvnI67yeBykrfsYFTvdJOQRPUwvXOCtcn2dkYIrDk1c6e3jEEOGQrg9mqDrg-UAYQLuuIwVyjfVLQ/s1125/IMG_7194.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1083" data-original-width="1125" height="616" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyzntwWhW5KQQPsFZe0wUMuyyfHiLAffL09lRrc5X80OW2-xXz-aBSoBgAoDlLxG0N6sH9CfnOV3I8PEJt30A7s6zsgAG7p4JvHY5EHuq_wwkBMYvnI67yeBykrfsYFTvdJOQRPUwvXOCtcn2dkYIrDk1c6e3jEEOGQrg9mqDrg-UAYQLuuIwVyjfVLQ/w640-h616/IMG_7194.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /> <p></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1
