ULTIMATE 'Dick Warlock' mask, first photos...

I have to finish up a few odds and ends like adding a glossy coat to the blood drip and setting snaps in the cheeks, but he's basically done! This is by far the best mask of this style that I've done and I didn't make a mark on it without being able to match it to a photo of the original. Every scratch, every dot, every bit of paint is matched to the screen used with the highest degree of faithfulness that I could manage...

Of course the original is now owned by veteran stunt man Dick Warlock, hence the name. It was made in 1982 during production of Friday the 13th part 3 and painted by set designer Robb Wilson King. It is the only Jason mask to be seen in FOUR films, notably, the end of part 3, all of part 4, and the hallucination scenes of part 5, which is the final version seen here. It is also seen in the prologue sequence of part 7 (which features part 4 flashbacks). Even the part 5 and 6 masks are believed to be recasts of this one piece. Its reuse throughout the series makes it THE hockey mask of the genre, so I wanted to do it as much justice as possible. I will have more comparison photos and a finished version in the near future.

  2. What type of snaps/rivets are used for the straps on this?

    1. They're actually pan head screws and washers. David Miller had removed the original snaps to recast the mask during pre-production and re-attached with the screws

  3. A great piece. Did you make the mask (mold, cast) yourself or did you have a blank for that?

    2. Maybe i found one of yours on ebay germany. But iam not sure. First i thought, this could be done by Darren Laken because he worked as artist for frightstuff. But then i thought twice... every detail is so perfect. Maybe you can confirm that's one of yours?

    4. Thank you for the confirmation. Unfortunately, the mask is broken at the blood area down to the eye and it was glued together not very well. But nevertheless i'm proud to have such an masterpiece now :)!

    5. Yes that break is on purpose my dude. The movie mask was thin acrylic and it was split from the axe cut down to the eye by a fake hammer during filming of part 4. When they reused the mask for part 5, they glued the damage together and painted over it with the blood drip you see to disguise it. So that was replicated in the mask. Any mask of that style you see that doesn't have that split through the eye is not accurate.
