Updates to my H40

I was a little dissatisfied with my ToTS H40 mask, so I made some enhancements recently. It made me realize that they likely went over-the-top with the weathering on the movie mask so that it popped on camera. I used three-tone weathering on this (thin black washes, raw sienna and a reddish brown mix). My only regret is that I didn't start with the proper dry brushing technique, but oh well. I will on the next one. Pretty happy with this now!

Above is a comparison--left is latest iteration, right is before the additional weathering. It looked cool but it just didn't "pop" like the movie mask.

H1 Hero Repaint

Repainted my previous Myers piece (DIY blank, hair by Martin Pena, paint by me)-- made the underlying skin tone darker, the eye cuts larger and evened out the cut of the neck a bit. Also increased the amount of skin tone exposure a bit, per photos of the hero. After a lot of trial and error, I think I know the H1 mask really well at this point, and I'm ready to take paint commissions for anyone interested. Anything you'd like to see different? Really proud of how the eyes have come out. Myers eyes are tough to get right because they look wildly different in every reference photo and you have to take into account stretching and sagging of the latex that will impact how they appear from shot to shot.

D.I.Y. Kirk blank and hair by Martin Pena. All other work by me. I went with a subtle H1 look with pretty minimal weathering. Love how it came out.

For non-Myers collectors, the D.I.Y. ("Do It Yourself") is a retool of a mask known as the "Medley Kirk"-- an original 1975 Captain Kirk mask owned by the Medleys. The Medley Kirk came out of the same mold as the Michael Myers mask used in the first Halloween movie. I wanted an H1 with lineage to the original, rather than a fan sculpt. This mask really hits all the marks. You can get one from Martin if you hit him up on Facebook.

For anyone interested, I'm considering taking Myers commissions! I can't currently re-hair, but I can do Kirk conversions from the eye cuts on up just as you see here. Not Jason but heyyyy gotta branch out once in a while. I've been a Myers fan since part 4 and a collector since 2009ish. I've owned a NAG Madman78 and a NHK from Nick Mulpagano (who does outstanding finish work). This is on a DIY blank by Martin Pena, which is itself a second-gen retool of an original Kirk mask.

Like a lot of Myers artists, I'm going for H1 perfection here, or as close as I can get to it with the mediocre photos that survive of the mask in its original 1978 condition. We'll see how it goes!
